Lupus
Lupus is an autoimmune disorder which occurs when the immune system attacks tissues and organs within the body. Multiple organ systems can be affected, including the skin, blood cells, heart and lungs.
It can be difficult to pinpoint Lupus because symptoms differ across the board and often mock those of other disorders. Symptoms may include rashes, lesions, fatigue, joint pain, excessive sweating and more.
Lesions can improve with broad spectrum sunscreen, anti-malarials, sun protective clothing and topical steroids. Other symptoms cannot be easily treated and require regular monitoring.
Your provider may recommend different lab or imaging tests to monitor the organs and cells during treatments. Treatments may change over time depending on the symptoms that arise. Lupus patients are prone to developing Raynaud's (a blood vessel disease), arthritis, and kidney disease.
